April 14 – 17 2010 – Inter-island Voters Education @ Agutaya and Cuyo Palawan
Together with two representatives from the Commission on Election – Election and Information Department (COMELEC-EID) and community organizers from the Andres Soriano Foundation, YouthVote Philippines through AYLA conducted an inter-island voters education among the local resident voters of Manamoc, Concepcion and Algeciras in the municipalities of Agutaya and Cuyo, 8 hours by ferry from mainland Palawan on April 14-17 2010 respectively.
PASAY, Philippines – Employees of Andres Soriano Foundation (ASF) and some hangar guests were given overview of the first automated election system in the country by Public Relations Head, Vicky Dulcero assisted by Emma Magsungsong. Practice shading using the new ballot and demonstration on the use of PCOS machine highlighted the session. Mildred Ople of AYLA/YVOTE likewise, gave a substantive discussion on issue-based voting framed using the Millennium Development Goals. (April 14)
MANAMOC, Cuyo Palawan – Around 250 local island residents had the opportunity to experience practice voting using the new ballot and the PCOS machine in a two-session voter education conducted with the assistance of the Barangay Council and Sangguniang Kabataan. (April 15)
ALGECIRAS and CONCEPCION Agutaya Palawan – Community voters from these two island barangays though hesitant at first to participate in the seminar turned out to be eager learners when they had firsthand experience of the automated election system. The designated local Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) from the local DepEd practiced the operation of PCOS machine. Attendees of the seminar were also given sample ballot for practice shading along with the flyer on “How to Vote” from Youth Vote Philippines. An interactive discussion on issue-based voting and the new voting process concluded the voters ed seminar in the respective barangays. (April 16)
