AYLC Alumnus wins international physics award

Over the past years, Ayala Young Leaders Congress (AYLC) alumni have been steadily making a name for themselves in their respective fields – may this be in the arts, socio-civics, education, or in the sciences.

This year, another alumnus has once again made a name for himself after continuously excelling in the field of physics and placing the Philippines on the map for optics research.

AYLC 2001 Alumnus and internationally acclaimed physicist Dr. Ryan Balili recently received the Gallieno Denardo International Physics award for his outstanding work on semiconductor optics.

Balili, a former scholar of the Department of Science and Technology, was recognized for developing a “new source of coherent light which may be the future in laser production.”

The award is given by the International Commission for Optics and the Abdus Salam International Center of Theoretical Physics to researchers from developing countries into optic research.

This is Balili’s second international physics award in the field of optic research. In 2006, he won the Physica Status Solidi Young Researcher Award.

Balili currently teaches at the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology. He graduated from the same university with a degree in physics in 2002 as Summa Cum Laude.
