Here’s some awesome news about our AYLC alumni who have been making their moves for TEN (The Entire Nation) Moves, a nationwide fundraising campaign for the construction of public school classrooms all over the Philippines.
They’ve made their move — how about you? What’s your move? 🙂
TEN Moves is looking for 2 million Filipinos who will commit to donate 10 pesos a day for 10 months. This is P300/month for 10 months, or a 1-time gift of P3,000.00.
Imagine if all of us in AYLC can help out and make a move! 😉

TABANG! Update: 36 boxes for Christmas

Posted: December 24, 2011 in AYLA News

TABANG! Update: We’re fresh from the Philippine Air Force and later on today, we’ll be sending 36 boxes of relief goods to our friends in Iligan City! Through your help, we’ve sent 60 cases of water (1440 500ml bottles) to our friends, 300 bottles of rubbing alcohol and cotton rolls, 300 bars of body soap, and 300 sachets of detergent soap. Also, we bought 50 bottles of much needed betadine and we sent out 305 pairs of slippers and shoes!

Through your donations, we’ve also sent out nine big boxes of clothes, nine boxes of toys, and an assortment of toiletries and other goodies that our friends in Iligan desperately need.

Maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga alumni who donated, brought in clothes and cash, volunteered in repacking and hauling at their local relief operation centers, and those who continuously prayed for the victims and the volunteers. You are our heroes.

Thank you, for your kind donations! Despite the circumstances, we have made Christmas just a little bit brighter for some of our friends in CDO and Iligan. Let’s continue making Christmas brighter for them by donating and sharing water to our friends this Christmas. With a donation of just P230, you can make a family happy by providing them water this Christmas!

Happy Holidays!

81 delegates of AYLC 2012 named!

Posted: December 20, 2011 in AYLC News

Out of the 179 outstanding student leaders from all over the country who were called in for interview last Nov. 22-24, 81 of them made the cut and will be invited to participate in the 14th Ayala Young Leaders Congress (AYLC 2012) on Feb. 7-10, 2012 in Tagaytay.

These top 81 emerged from about 800 applications received this year, and have successfully passed  the different phases of AYLC’s rigorous screening process. They will now undergo a 4-day leadership summit which will feature talks, outdoor activities, plenary sessions and workshop group discussions.  Well-known and highly respected leaders from government, civil society, business, the arts, media and entertainment will share their own leadership stories and experiences that will challenge participants’ perspectives and paradigms.

The Ayala Young Leaders Congress is a concrete expression of the Ayala Group’s commitment to national development. It is the keystone of “Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders”, the youth leadership development program launched in 1998 by the Ayala group of companies as a strategic investment in the youth, and ultimately, in the future of the country.

Ayala’s dream is to nurture a community and form a network of values-based and principled Filipino leaders  committed passionately to nation building and to uplifting the lives of their fellow Filipinos.

179 make it to the AYLC 2012 Panel Interviews

809 started. 709 screened. 179 make the cut!

After going through a series of screenings under this year’s more rigorous selection process, 179 student leaders from the different schools and universities all over the Philippines emerge as qualifiers for the 14th Ayala Young Leaders Congress (AYLC 2012) Panel Interviews on November 22-24, 2011.

Held every year at Ayala Corporation’s headquarters in Ayala Tower One in Makati City, the Panel Interviews is the final stage of screening. Top executives and HR personnel from the Ayala Group of Companies compose panels that will choose the top 81 from the pool of interviewees. These 81 outstanding student leaders get to move on as delegates to the Congress on February 7-10, 2012, at Alfonso, Cavite.

Coming forward with their leadership experiences and active involvement in their schools and communities, these 179 young leaders will vie for a spot in the Congress, where they will further develop their leadership skills and grow into servant leaders for this country. Already on its 14th year, the Ayala Young Leaders Congress is a concrete expression of the Ayala Group’s commitment to national development.

Taking Starfish Online: Call for Applications to the Editorial Board
Overview

The Starfish program remains to be one of the highlights of the Ayala Young Leaders alumni community activities.  Since Starfish started in 2005, it has successfully provided a venue for alumni to share their leadership stories and insights, despite the many management and financial challenges encountered along the way.  The clamor to revive the Starfish project is strong among the alumni pool, as well as the Ayala Young Leaders Congress program movers and executives. Starfish has great significance in developing an identity for the Ayala Young Leaders alumni community.

The formal creation of the Ayala Young Leaders Alumni Association (AYLAA) in 2011 brings forth many changes for the Starfish project. First, Starfish will be directly managed and financed by the AYLAA, as one of its key result areas. Second, Starfish will be taken to an online platform to ease the financial challenges of seeking quarterly printing expenses in Starfish’ magazine format. And third, Starfish takes on a more nuanced twist in its approach as a platform for youth empowerment – it will now adopt the mission and vision of the AYLAA:

Mission: Leaders Empowering Leaders
Vision: A vibrant community of Filipino youth servant leaders who create and implement relevant, sustainable, and impactful programs that contribute to nation-building

With this in mind, Starfish opens a new chapter.

This document serves as a conceptual teaser, and an open invitation to all alumni who are willing to commit to the revival and sustainability of Starfish.

The New Starfish

Starfish will be made available as an online platform. This allows for faster uploads for articles, photos, and other information.

Starfish will remain to be a venue for the alumni to share their leadership experiences and insights. Content will be guided by the AYLAA mission and vision, with special interest of highlighting “Filipino youth servant leadership”.

As per content categorizations, Starfish Online will be guided by the pegs of Time online, and The Huffington Post. Both of these pegs offer a range of content – news, opinion, politics, entertainment, lifestyle, technology, among others. Starfish wants to cover the range of youth topics that cannot be handled by its former magazine format.

OVER 120 school officials from universities and colleges from all over the Philippines met for a Student Leadership Development Forum organized by the Ayala Young Leaders Congress (AYLC) Program. The event was keynoted by Commission on Higher Education (Ched) Chair Dr. Patricia Licuanan.

The Student Leadership Development Forum highlighted on the vital role educators play in the leadership formation of their students. With her experiences in the academe, as a psychologist, and now as Ched Chair, Licuanan shared her insights on student leadership development in the context of higher education.

“Apart from sharing with our guests updates on the AYLC program, we invited Dr. Licuanan to deliver a keynote speech and share her insights on leadership development in the context of higher education institutions. Her sharing will provide our audience new perspectives and a greater sense of responsibility for the role they play as formators of leaders for our country. She will emphasize the need for schools to see their role not just in terms of developing skills for their graduates’ employment but as key drivers in bringing change to our country through leadership development,” said AYLC program director John Philip Orbeta.

The forum likewise marked the official launch of the 14th cycle of the National Ayala Young Leaders Congress. Now on its 14th year, the search is once again open for nominees to the annual leadership congress.

The AYLC is the flagship program for youth development created in 1999 by the Ayala group of companies as a concrete expression of its commitment to national development. Now approaching its 14th year, AYLC continues to fuel the dream of nurturing a corps of servant leaders who will use their leadership to help uplift the lives of Filipinos.

“Today also marks the formal start of our 14th AYLC cycle and our call for nominees from your respective institutions. We go through this process of searching for student leaders to take part in AYLC each year and through the past 13 years, our conviction and hope for change in our country have grown stronger,” said Fernando Zobel de Ayala, President and Chief Operating Officer of Ayala Corporation, in his opening message.

New innovations have been introduced into the AYLC program, widening its scope of partner schools, introducing an online application process, and adopting a post-congress mentoring program for the AYLC delegates.

“We have expanded our scope of schools to include seminaries, the Philippine National Police Academy, and Pamulaan School for Indigenous people in recognition of the need of these sectors for more servant leaders. We believe that leadership is best learned when it is practiced or applied immediately and in a concrete manner. Because of this, we have strengthened our push for AYLC delegates to pursue change projects at their school and community level,” said Orbeta.

Over the years, the AYLC Program maintains to strengthen its partnerships with its partner schools even beyond the annual congress in hopes developing more young leaders across the country. The AYLC has piloted a mentoring program to strengthen the involvement of schools in the continuous development of young leaders.

“Through programs like the student leadership development forum, AYLC hopes to build in school leaders a deeper sense of mission not just in education but in leadership formation. In the coming years, AYLC hopes to develop relevant programs such as helping adults work with youth leaders better,” explained Orbeta.

Expanding its reach of developing more young leaders in the country, the event likewise introduced a new leadership program that was inspired by the AYLC. The Leadership Communities program is a multi-stakeholder program developed by Ayala Foundation, Inc. Under the program, partner schools form a “Leadership Community” that will champion youth leadership development in its area.

“Because of your continued support and belief in our goals, AYLC has gained credibility and recognition in the youth leadership development field. Through AYLC, we have been able to draw needed attention to youth leadership development resulting to expansion efforts giving birth to a number of Ayala Foundation-led leadership development initiatives such as the Education & Livelihood Skills Alliance or ELSA Young Leaders Camp, the Cultures Across Mindanao Program sponsored by the US Embassy and USAID, numerous leadership camps, and most recently, the Leadership Communities program for Catanduanes and Oriental Mindoro,” said Ayala.

As the Ayala group of companies continues with its commitment to national development and nurturing young leaders, the AYLC alumni community continues to grow. To date, there are 963 AYLC alumni located all over the country, and the world, working in their respective sectors as catalysts for change.

“We, in the Ayala group, remain steadfast in our commitment to principled leadership and to service for national development. We organize AYLC and our top executives take part in it each year because we firmly believe in our dream that in the near future, principled, values-based servant leadership will be the norm and corrupt, self serving leaders, the exception. We see our Ayala Young Leaders and the many everyday young heroes and change-makers in your respective schools setting the new standard of leadership in our country,” said Ayala.

Annually, the program receives more than 600 applications nationwide. Applications for the congress will undergo a rigorous screening and selection process, before being shortlisted to the top 150 applicants. The top 150 applicants will undergo another round of screening, where they will be asked to come to the Ayala Corporation’s headquarters in Makati City for their panel interview. The top 80 delegates will be selected from this final leg of screening process. Delegates to the annual AYLC will participate in three days of lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and outdoor challenges designed to hone their leadership potential and inspire them to lead lives of integrity and to continue working for the good for their community and country.

Nominations to the AYLC 2012 are open until August 22,2011, interested applicants may visit their Student Affairs Office for more details or visit http://www.ayalayoungleaders.ph. The AYLC 2012 is set on February 7 to 10, 2012 at the San Miguel Corporation Management Training Center, in Alfonso, Cavite.
